The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) will host the 2011 NC Federal Construction and Infrastructure (FEDCON) Summit (formerly the MILCON Summit) at the NEW Wilmington Convention Center on OCT 19-20, 2011. 

Any general or specialty contractor, architectural or engineering firm or construction supplier who works – or wants to work – in the federal construction market should attend.  The Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the Coast Guard, VA, GSA Public Buildings Service and all bases in NC, including their Small Business specialists, are scheduled to attend.  Any business that supports the construction industry – including the 600-700 business representatives who will attend this Summit – should also attend.

In an effort to meet the request of companies interested in learning more about government contracting, SBTDC Counselor George Griffin is beginning a monthly “Introduction to Government Contracting ” seminar.

This basic one hour class will focus on local, state and federal contracting and registrations. The class will be held in Greensboro at the Nussbaum Center on the last Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am (2007 Yanceyville St. Greensboro, NC 27405). This class will be an excellent lead into one on one government counseling.

Other government contracting training events will continue to be held throughout our area. The intent of the Nussbaum Center classes is to allow your clients access to regularly scheduled classes in a timely manner.

The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) is pleased to provide you with information about the Defense Contractor Academy for Product Providers at Fayetteville Technical Community College. 

Purpose.  The Defense Contractor Academy will offer instruction and a certificate of completion to existing, small business defense contractors to provide the tools needed to grow the defense contracting portion of their business portfolio.  A series of 12 classes will be offered over a 6 week period, two times a week, beginning on April 5, 2011 and ending May 12, 2011.  Each session will include presentation of material and either a panel or guest business(es) to discuss their experiences regarding the topic of the session. 

Focus.  This particular Academy will focus on PRODUCT PROVIDERS – manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers of products for the military and other federal agencies.  Future Academies will focus on service providers and construction-related companies.  Non-PRODUCT PROVIDERS may still apply for this Academy, but should understand that 4 of the 12 sessions are specifically oriented to product providers.  Future academies will have similar sessions focused on these other disciplines.   

Continuing Education Units.  For each course, the individual in attendance will be eligible to receive certified continuing education units (CEU) which will be mailed by Fayetteville Technical Community College to the address on record.

Application  In order to be considered for acceptance into the Defense Contractor Academy, the company must fill out an application at this site: http://www.ncmbc.us/2011DefenseContractorAcademy.php.  The deadline to submit applications is March 14, 2011 by 5:00 pm. Only one application per company will be accepted. Once all applications have been received, the Defense Contractor Academy committee will review applications and notify accepted participants by March 21, 2011 at the email account listed in the application. Who can attend from your company?  Companies may send different individuals from their organization to attend specific sessions (i.e. the chief financial officer to attend the financing courses, etc.).

Cost.  Once your company has been approved by the Defense Contractor Academy committee, your organization will be asked to fill out a promissory form for payment at the end of the course.  The entire course (all 12 classes, including materials) is a total of $65.00.
